South Beach

So finally my South Beach trip comes to an end. Back in da Bronx now, after a memorial day bbq (see pic below) I am now preparing for my Sub-internship that begins tomorrow (where I'll basically be an intern at a hopsital medicine ward). But South Beach was one crazy time indeed. Beautiful weather all day, no rain or clouds, lovely beaches with beautiful people, and partying all night. However, one thing we didn't know about Memorial Day weekend was that there is an annual hip hop festival!

Now I aint racist or anything, but I was wondering why I was seeing so many black people and "thugs" at that. Not quite what I expected. As we walked the streets, I saw more NBA jerseys than at the playoffs, fake bling necklaces, Escalades rolling down the streets, spinning chrome giavanni rims, quadruple XL white tshirts, and flat billed hats (doo-rag optional). Then I started seeing the advertisement banners on the planes with everyone from G-Unit, Fat Joe, Lloyd Banks, Funk Flex, Dj Clue, and lord knows who else. The clubs were swarmed with peeps for the hip hop shows, paying 60-80 bucks a pop, and the hennessey was sold out.

That wasn't really our scene, but we managed to avoid the hip hop scene and found recluse in some awesome bars such as Sky Bar in the Shore Club Hotel, which was a huge indoor/outdoor bar that extend around the pool and almost to the beach. Chairs, beds, pillows of all sorts in a moroccon-ish fashion sprawled everywhere for people to hang out on. Def a place to check out. Another awesome place was Mynt, which was around the corner. Opening at midnight, 2 flooors with house and hip hop, and ridden with beautiful people and models, with a 4:1 girl:guy ratio. Def a place for a nyc lover. Couldn't complain. Another place we checked out was Rumi's, another smaller 2 level lounge, which also reminded me a lot of nyc. The bigger places such as Opium, Crobar, etc. will have to wait for my next trip, because the hip hop festival pretty much tookem all over! One thing I unfortunately missed was Sunday's at Nikki Beach. Yet another goal for next time.

The beach scene was amazing. (I also noticed that very few peeps for the music festival came to the beach!) The weather was perfect, sand was clean, and water was warm. And of course everyone was half naked, gota luv south beach. We had dinner one night at Sushi Samba, which was def superior to the one in nyc, and is def worth checkin out--right on Lincoln St., sitting outside amongst the passerbys, surrounded by stores open till midnight and bars open till late.

Anyway, it was def a great trip. I am sparing the general public the real scandalous stories of the trip, but if you inquire, perhaps i'll let you in on them ;) You can check out all the pictures I sent from my phone as I was there (moblogging, what a great feature!). Be ready to spend money, chill, party, and be worn out!
