Saddam's Hanging
Wow. Saddam executed. I am sure we all heard about the hanging of Saddam. Quite a big day in history I think, Saddam has been symbolic as one of the true enemies of the United States for so long, it is quite a big deal. I'm sure the all the Bush's were lighting cigars and changing their shorts after the press release. Of course it was interesting that it happened to occur at the time of Gerald Ford's death, so the news tried to juggle the two, but I found the headlines clearly were dominated by Saddam's death. And why not? I would much rather watch the hanging of Saddam rather than the speeches at the funeral of Gerald Ford (nothing against the respected ex-President of course). Death by hanging. I wonder how many countries still use that as their mode of execution? Just gotta hope that neck snaps on the first drop. Though apparently you cannot even trust lethal injections now, like the recent incident with the infiltrated IV in Florida causing the prolonged death by injection. That's gotta suck! But anyways, you gotta give to the Iraqi justice system that they are efficient. It took probably less than a week after the sentencing to send Saddam to the gallows, those guys don't mess around. In the US, they sit around death row ages it seems. So now Saddam is dead, and Bush has accomplished one of his main "goals" right? But oh how far we are from "victory" in any sense amidst the turmoil in Iraq, which will remain a scorched earth for much time to come. But I'll avoid delving into that for now...
The press showed footage of him getting the noose, but in case anyone wants some more footage, their is a cellphone video of the actual hanging floating around, with audio. The second I saw the news video, I new for sure some dude had a cell phone that he would catch the raw footage. Saddam refuses the hood and you hear him saying his last prayer before he drops and his neck snaps, and we catch a glimpse of his swaying body. In another news, The Giants beat the Redskins to secure their playoff spot! What a stressful game, but wow what a performance by Tiki. Rushing for 234 yards with 3 touchdowns.. Amazing!
Yesterday, at an annual Eid gathering, I found my cousin and uncle huddled in a corner with a laptop.
They were watching this heinous hanging video.. all straight faced... not even a grimace crossed their faces..
Your past few posts have made me flinch... either you sleep from fatigue or from some chemical induction.. I would have terrible nightmares...
